The American Music Awards made their return in 2025, and Billie Eilish has won big. In other news, Beyoncé finally wins for Cowboy Carter, there were some surprise winners throughout the night. There were also some stunning performances, that will get people talking in the weeks and months to come.
Billie Wins Them All
Billie Eilish was nominated for seven American Music Awards during the May 26, 2025 show. She won all seven awards. These include:
- Artist of the Year
- Album of the Year (Hit Me Hard and Soft)
- Song of the Year (“Birds of a Feather”)
- Favorite Touring Artist
- Favorite Female Pop Artist
- Favorite Pop Album (Hit Me Hard and Soft)
- Favorite Pop Song (“Birds of a Feather”)
As a matter of fact, Eilish had steep competition in all of the major categories. For example, Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, and Lady Gaga had been nominated for Favorite Female Pop Artist. The five women have a combined 520 million followers on Instagram, with Eilish having the second most at 124 million. In addition to Carpenter, Swift, and Roan, she was also up against the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, among others for Artist of the Year.
Many believed that either Swift, or even Carpenter, would be the artist to complete the sweep. In comparsion, not as much attention had been given to Eilish, making her eventual victory all the more impressive.
Beyoncé Has Done It
After two previous outings with no nominations, Beyoncé has won the AMA for Favorite Country Album. This is her second win for Cowboy Carter in this category, having won the Grammy for Best Country Album earlier this year. This is also her fifth overall award win for the album.
However, she had not received a nomination in the Favorite Country Song category. The song that received the honor this year? “I Had Some Help,” performed by Post Malone and Morgan Wallen.
Beyoncé had received nominations for Favorite Female Country Artist and Favorite Country Album, but not for Favorite Country Song. Subsquently, she has not received any nominations for individual songs on Cowboy Carter. Nonetheless, even though it’s not at a country music awards show, five wins in one year for an album is impressive. Perhaps there will be more to come, though time will tell.
2025 American Music Awards Highlights
The return of the American Music Awards filled with surprises and fun moments.
Gracie Abrams won New Artist of the Year. Arcane Season Two won Favorite Soundtrack over Wicked. Doechii beat out Chappell Roan and Shaboozey for Social Song of the Year. Twenty One Pilots won Favorite Rock Artist, while Linkin Park won for Favorite Rock Song. Meanwhile, in one of the biggest surprises of the night, names such as Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan failed to secure any awards.
In addition to the awards, star-studded performances, including the debut of the first song from Reneé Rapp’s new album and Janet Jackson’s first television performance in nearly two decades, filled the night with an electric atmosphere.
The 2025 American Music Awards did not dissapoint. After a multi-year absence, it appears they are here to stay and are proving that, while the Grammys are king, they are able to put on a fantastic show, that will have people talking for a long time to come.
