The 2025 Primetime Emmy Nominations have been revealed. Leading the way is Apple TV+’s Severance with 27 nominations. With the best shows in television, on display for the world to see, it will be an exciting ride. Though some will come as no surprise to fans and critics like, some surprises exist among the crowd, and even some history made, as the Primetime Emmys is gearing up for its 77th show on September 14.
2025 Primetime Emmy Series Nominations Recap

On July 15, the 2025 Primetime Emmys nominations were revealed. It is no surprise that Apple TV+’s Severance is the most nominated show, at 27 nominations. HBO Max series The Penquin is not far behind, with 24 nominations. The White Lotus, from HBO Max, and The Studio, from Apple TV+, follow suit with 23 nominations each.
Among all the nominations this year is some pieces of history. For example, The Studio ties the record for most nominations for a comedy series in a single year. The record, set in 2024 by The Bear, now has another series to share it with. However, The Studio soley holds the record for most nominations for a freshman comedy series, breaking the mark set in 2021 by Ted Lasso, another Apple TV+ series.
In addition, plenty of other fan-favorites made their way onto the nominations list. For example, Disney+’s Andor and HBO Max’s The Last of Us join Severance and The White Lotus in the Best Drama Series category. In addition, The Bear has steep competition in the Best Comedy Series category, as ABC’s Abbott Elementary, Hulu’s Only Murders In The Building, among other popular shows looking to take its crown.
Finally, HBO Max’s The Penquin leads the Best Limited or Anthology Series category, at 24 nominations. Netflix has three series in contention in this category, with Adolescence, Black Mirror, and Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story. FX on Hulu’s Dying For Sex rounds out the category.
2025 Primetime Emmy Actor Nominations Recap

As a matter of fact, one of the highlights of the actor category nominations is a piece of history. With their nomination as a Lead Actress In A Drama Series for their role in The Last of Us, Bella Ramsey becomes the first non-binary actor to receive multiple lifetime Emmy nominations.
In terms of the other actor categories, Pedro Pascal and Britt Lower lead the Lead Actor In A Drama Series, for The Last of Us and Severance, respectively. Britt Lower joins Ramsey in the Lead Actress In A Drama Series category, along with others such as Keri Russell from Netflix’s The Diplomat. In addition, Jeremy Allen White leads the Lead Actor In A Comedy Series category, representing The Bear. Kristen Bell, representing Nobody Wants This, leads the Lead Actress in A Comedy Series category. Cate Blanchett and Michelle Williams lead the Lead Actress In A Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category. Meanwhile, Colin Farrell and Jake Gyllenhaal lead the way in the Lead Actor In A Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category.
Finally, the Supporting Actor categories for a Drama Series are dominated by The White Lotus. The series has seven out of the 14 spots across the two categories. Severance, Paradise, and The Pitt make up the other seven spots. The Comedy Supporting Actors categories include a more even split, with seven shows occupying the two categories. This includes Saturday Night Live, receiving a nomination for Bowen Yang’s work with the series. Meanwhile, for the Limited or Anthology Series or Movie Actors categories have a similar split, with five different series occupying the 12 slots.
Two Months From The Big Night

The 2025 Primetime Emmys are two months away, with the big ceremony taking place on September 14. Severance will look to break the mark set by Shōgun for most Emmy wins in a single night by a single series. In addition, Bella Ramsey will look to become the first openly non-binary actor in Emmys history to win an award. All in all, the 2025 Primetime Emmys are shaping up to be an exciting night, filled with pride for all of the breakthroughs of television from the past year.
