The WNBA finals are set!
After another eventful season, 2025 is nearly at a close for the WNBA as they look towards the finals between the Las Vegas Aces and Phoenix Mercury. Despite a shaky beginning, the Aces are entering their fourth year at the finals and the Mercury with their fifth.
Phoenix bested the league titan the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday. With a 107-98 overtime victory against the No. 6 Indiana Fever on Tuesday, the Aces advanced to the finals. They’ll be hosting Game 1.
The teams have faced each other four times this season with the Aces coming out 3-1. The Aces led by A’ja Wilson had back to back championships in 2022 and 2023. They have the longest postseason streak in the league with seven consecutive seasons. The Mercury have appeared two consecutive times. This is their first finals appearance since 2021.
It’ll be fun to see who comes out with the title of champions. Both teams seemed to have some identity issues to overcome initially in the season. In their first season without legends Brittney Griner and Dana Taurasi, the Mercury lost 70% of its scoring according to ESPN. The only players to return from the previous season were Kahleah Cooper and Natasha Mack.
