The MLB held its annual All-Star Game this Tuesday between the American League and National League. The game was hosted by the Atlanta Braves in Truist Park in Cumberland, Georgia. The National League took the game in a 7-6 final drawing in 7.2 million viewers with an ending that will go down in history. In order to break the tie, the game adopted a Home Run Derby style. In this method, each team selects three players who get three swings in an attempt to hit a home run. Whichever team has the most homeruns, wins the game. The National League chose Kyle Schwarber, Pete Alonso, and Kyle Stowers. The American League chose Jonathan Aranda, Brent Rooker, and Randy Arozarena. Schwarber managed to knock out home runs on each of his swings sending the NL to victory.
The Midsummer Classic’s massive ratings made it the most watched all star event in sports. The novel finish is believed to have assisted in the higher ratings. With this years 7.2 million viewership mark, they’ve accomplished their highest mark since 2017. America’s pastime is on a trek to return to its former glory with viewership and attendance increasing across all platforms. According to Outkick, attendance has grown 11% since 2022. The MLB has seen their numbers jump from ten to twenty-two percent across a variety of platforms. With big names like Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout, and Aaron Judge and strategic planning, the MLB keeps the fire going. Although a decline in overall sports viewership has occurred in recent years, the MLB seems to be taking the right measures to maintain a connection with fans, especially younger ones.
