It seems like the kinetic energy manifesting at DC Studios won’t fade away any time soon with a long-gestating show. ‘Booster Gold’ will receive an HBO Max debut, after talks of the show were had in 2023. ‘Booster Gold’ was apart of the new reboot that James Gunn and Peter Safran initially announced a few years ago. David Jenkins known for his work with ‘Our Flag Means Death’ and ‘People of Earth’ will write the pilot. This is the first major development for the show.
HBO Max has become more intentional in its relationship with DC and their burgeoning phase after the success of ‘The Penguin’. The show starring Colin Farrell in the titular role received an astounding 24 Emmy nominations. Just this week, DC announced that Ana Nogueira who wrote ‘Supergirl’ was also tapped for the new installment of ‘Wonder Woman.’ The next two DC shows to drop on HBO and HBO Max will be season 2 of ‘Peacemaker’ and ‘Lanterns’.
Who is Booster Gold?
The character Michael John Carter aka Booster Gold was created by writer Dan Jurgens in 1986. If it isn’t obvious from his less than subtle name and his utter flamboyance, Booster Gold is the superhero that always seems to but heads with his comrades. His ego is a direct result of his power suit containing 25th century technology that enhances his intellectual and physical capabilities. However his arrogance seems to come from a deep rooted sense of self doubt. He gained the superhero identity after a failing college football career in 2442. Booster Gold stole time-traveling technology then returned to the modern day world, gaining notoriety as Booster Gold for his feats.
Asides from Jenkins involvement, there have been no other confirmations on the makings of the series. Rumors have spread that Kumail Nanjiani will star as Booster Gold, but that is also unclear.
