San Francisco was booming this weekend as the Outside Lands Festival commenced. A 3-day festival consisting of an A-list lineup including Tyler, the Creator, Hozier, Doja Cat and more. The festival took place from August 8-10 at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Doors opened at eleven in the morning and rounding out at ten, providing concertgoers with a full day of music, food, and great vibes.
The Outside Lands Festival started in 2008 in Golden Gate Park with Radiohead being the first headliner. Each year, the festival draws more than 200,000 people to the Bay Area. It is the largest independently owned music festival in the country. Outside Lands has also been a hotspot for local artists. One of those is Bay Area native LaRussell known for his playful music and interest in cost-friendly concert structures. He performed a mix of songs from his recent album ‘Majorly Independent’. Following him was Atlanta rapper Ludacris who performed some of his biggest hits from the 2000s.
Tyler the Creator’s performance had to be the most defining moment of the weekend. Last year, he opted out of Outside Lands as well as Lollapalooza. Although he never stated the reason for the sudden leave, it is assumed that he was putting the final touches on his project ‘Chromakopia.’ Nevertheless, the rapper with a million personas gave his all on the stage. He performed several pieces from his most recent albums ‘Don’t Tap the Glass’ and ‘Chromakopia’ but left much to be desired for his older songs.
The Lands End stage was filled with memorable performances that will surely remain in the Outside Lands zeitgeist for years to come. Having big named artists continue to show up at indie fests like these brings good news. For an eager generation of artists and creatives, its festivals like Outside Lands that give them that extra push to create and inspire.
