BTS member Suga recently finished his enlistment in the South Korean military. Jin and J-Hope were discharged in June and October of last year, respectively. In South Korea, all able bodied men 18-28 are required to enlist in the military. The law gives exemption to athletes, ballet dancers and some musicians if their artistry is of a particular level. K-pop stars and similar artists aren’t granted these exemptions. However, when the South Korean National Assembly revised its Military Service Act in 2020, this allowed BTS members to prolong their enlistment until they turned 30.
