The final four episodes of the second season of ‘Wednesday’ landed ironically on Wednesday, September 3rd. The first half of ‘Wednesday’ was released in August, with a nearly month long wait in between. Part 1 received incredible reviews, leaving viewers and critics hooked after its midseason cliffhanger.
Series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar spoke on the decision to divide the season. “We felt that if we were going to split the season,” Millar said, “then the end of the fourth episode needed to be something amazing; a cliffhanger to bring the audience back for the next chapter. That was an exciting challenge.”
“At the end of Episode 4,” Gough added, “Wednesday literally lets the lunatics out of the asylum, and the rest of the season is: ‘Now you have to deal with that …’ She solved one mystery and has unleashed a Pandora’s box of new problems.”
So far the second half of this season has garnered equally rave reviews. The writing for this season builds well off of the prior one, ensuring that there aren’t any holes in the plot. The first season was filmed in a castle in Romania, Cantacuzino Castle while the second season was filmed in an Irish castle, Killyleagh Castle. Lady Gaga made a cameo appearance in the sixth episode as Rosaline Rotwood, a late Nevermore professor with the power of second sight. On the day that part two of ‘Wednesday’ released, Lady Gaga also dropped an accompanying song ‘The Dead Dance’ featuring a music video directed by Tim Burton.
