With the live-action Tomb Raider series a go at Amazon MGM, the studio has confirmed Sophie Turner will play Lara Croft. In addition, they confirmed that there’s a January 2026 date set for filming to begin. With Tomb Raider being one of the more popular video game franchises, fans will be excited to see the promising development, as the series comes closer and closer to release.
Sophie Turner Will Be Lara Croft

In short, Amazon MGM Studios has revealed that Sophie Turner will play Lara Croft in the live-action Tomb Raider series. In addition, they also confirmed that Jan. 19, 2026 is the date the series begins filming. Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Chad Hodge will serve as co-showrunners. Jonathan van Tulleken will be a part of the show as director and executive producer.
A statement from Turner reads: “I am thrilled beyond measure, to be playing Lara Croft. She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got.” She notes the two previous live-action Lara Crofts, Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, saying that there is “massive shoes to fill.” However, she is ready for the task ahead. All in all, fans will be ready to see what this iteration of the iconic video game franchise will bring.
