A new installment of the ‘Knives Out’ series titled ‘Wake Up Dead Man’ is being released by Netflix. Daniel Craig reprises his role as crime savant, detective Benoit Blanc in this sequel to ‘ Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’. The film had its world premiere at the current Toronto International Film Festival on September 6th. ‘Wake Up Dead Man’ features an ensemble cast of Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.
The ‘Knives Out’ series is written and directed by Rian Johnson.
“Every time we make one of these films, it’s fun to think, ‘How can this one explore a whole different corner of this genre?’ the director told Netflix. “It’s a side alley of the whodunit genre: the impossible crime. A corpse is found in a locked room, a knife in his back, he is alone, and there are no ways in or out. With such a constrained premise, there are only a few real options to work with. It’s the mystery version of a chess puzzle, with just enough pieces on the board and no more, and a few predetermined moves at your disposal.”
Because of his work on the Knives Out series, Johnson has earned two Oscar nominations for both ‘Knives Out’ and ‘Glass Onion’
For ‘Wake Up Dead Man’,Johnson employed a host of classic mystery novels as inspiration for the film like Agatha Christie’s ‘Murder at the Vicarge’ and G.K. Chesterson’s ‘Father Brown Mysteries’.
‘Wake Up Dead Man’ is scheduled for release on November 26 and heads to theaters December 12.
