Major Spoilers for Squid Game Season Three in this article. If you plan on watching, come back here at a later point.
The main Squid Game series hit its violent conclusion with the premiere of the third season on June 27. However, this is not the end for the universe as a whole. With an American-based spinoff on the way, and possible others as well, the franchise as a whole will stick around for a long time to come.
The Main Show Is Over

The third season of the main Squid Game series has concluded. Currently, it holds an 80% critic score and 50% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The reviews are varying. Miguel Calabria writes: “The wear and tear [of the series] is evident, the fatigue is felt, and, worst of all, it’s clear that the story no longer wants to be told, but simply to prolong its existence.” Meanwhile, Zach Pope writes: “Squid Game Season 3 ended in a bleak but almost perfect finale. One of Netflix’s best series & an ending that made me feel satisfied.”
All in all, the opinions are indeed varying, with some calling the season the best Netflix has ever put together, and others saying the series is being milked way too much. Regardless, the third season is the last of the main series. However, there is something else on the horizon for this world.
American Squid Game

In October 2024, Deadline reported that David Fincher was working on an Engligh-language version of Squid Game. However, no updates have appeared since then. With that, with the ending of the main series, it appears that the games are expanding to new heights, and new places.
One of the final scenes of the main series includes a shocking cameo by Cate Blanchett. Within the scene, it appears that Blanchett’s character is an American-based recruiter for the games. With that, it seems that the games are growing, and that attempts at an uprising, led by Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), were largely in vain. Tha games are reborn, with the chance of them being more deadly and bloody than ever before.
Let The Games Continue

In conclusion, Squid Game Season Three is a mixed bag for many fans all over the world. However, it appears that the games have only just begun. All in all, the franchise does not appear to be going away anytime soon, though time will tell if fans will want to stick around for what is to come next.
