An official trailer for ‘The Running Man’ was released earlier this week. ‘The Running Man’ is a dystopian black comedy produced by Edgar Wright and based off of the novel written by Stephen King. In the movie, a man played by Glen Powell joins a game show where he and the other contestants can visit anywhere in the world- and are hunted by killers. This version is a remake of the original that came out in 1987. The 1987 version starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Conchita Alonso, and Yaphet Kotto.
‘The Running Man’ will feature an ensemble cast of Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, Jayme Lawson, and Michael Cera. Principal photography began last November in the United Kingdom and wrapped up this spring. Producer Edgar Wright expressed interest in developing a remake of the 80s film in a 2017 Twitter post. In 2021, Paramount Pictures announced that a remake was in the works with Wright being attached. Michael Bacall wrote the screenplay underneath the production of Genre Films. Glen Powell was cast in early 2024.
The Making of ‘The Running Man’
Wright’s resume makes him look perfect for the task at hand. His background includes work on ‘The Adventures of Tintin’, ‘Ant-Man’, and others. With this film, Wright vowed to pull more from the Stephen King novel. His version will explore the realm of the story outside of the game show. Hehad this to say in an interview with Empire. “It does feel like making a road movie in a lot of ways: a very intense, dangerous road movie,” he adds. “Ben is moving through different environments and meeting different people as he tries to survive 30 days out in the wild.”
Actor Glen Powell stars in the main role of Ben Richards. After an eventful year with his roles in ‘Twister’ and ‘Anyone But You’, this has the chance of being a hit in the box office. In an interview with People Magazine, he stated that Arnold Schwarzenegger gave him his blessing. “Arnold gave us his blessing,” Powell said. “[His son] Patrick Schwarzenegger is a great friend of mine and I asked Patrick if I could talk to Arnold and I hadn’t seen Arnold since we shot Expendables in Bulgaria.” Powell along with Wright and Josh Brolin shared footage from the film at CinemaCon in April.
The original film was directed by Paul Michael Glaser.
The film is releasing on November 7,2025.
