Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars delayed.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the next two Avengers films need more time to assemble. They rely heavily on special effects, so they will take all the time necessary to get it all right. This is to ensure that moviegoers have the highest-quality experience possible.
What The Delays Mean
Avengers Doomsday, originally intended for release on May 1, 2026, is delayed to December 18, 2026. Meanwhile, Avengers Secret Wars, which was originally set for a May 7, 2027 release, is delayed to December 17, 2027.
The delays allow the special effects team for both films more time to complete the VFX-heavy shots. In addition, in the particular case of Secret Wars, this is an expansive story. As such, the more time to iron out the story, the better. As industry insiders note: “these two films are among the biggest ever made, and the delays simply allow more time to execute on a gargantuan vision.”
To sum up, the delays of Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars ultimately benefit everyone involved. For instance, the cast and crew working on the two films get more time to film and edit the film. Therefore, they get more time to make the best film possible for moviegoers to enjoy. In short, the delays will ultimately be a benefit, as Marvel Studios looks to build one of the most expansive films they have ever created.
What Will Doomsday & Secret Wars Be About?

To clarify, there has been no indication of the plot for either Avengers Doomsday or Secret Wars. The only real insight into plot for either movie is a quote from Director Joe Russo. When asked about inspirations for Secret Wars, he confirmed they would take inspiration from both the 1984-85 and the 2015-16 Secret Wars comic series. In more detail, he stated that both Secret Wars runs are “very different from each other in a lot of ways, so we’ll draw inspiration from both of them.”
Aside from that, there is no public information about the plot of either film. However, with Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars delayed, this gives the Russo brothers more time to flesh out the story for both films.
As for when we’ll hear more about Doomsday and Secret Wars, that remains to be seen. They could announce plot details at San Diego Comic-Con in July, but with news of the delays, that seems less likely now. Fans will just have to wait a little while longer to see what adventures the next two Avengers films will ultimately bring.
