“Black Phone 2” had a strong opening weekend, launching a blockbuster Halloween season. The film grossed $26.5 million this weekend, leading all films in North America.
“Black Phone 2” is a sequel to 2021’s “The Black Phone” starring Ethan Hawke as “The Grabber”. The Blumhouse horror film beat out “Tron: Ares” which made $11.1 million in its second weekend in the box office. “Black Phone 2” currently holds a 74% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.7 on IMDb, a slight drop from its ratings on the first movie.
Other films in theaters include Aziz Ansari’s comedy “Good Fortune” which features a spectacular cast of Ansari, Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh, and Keanu Reeves. The film hasn’t received much promotion but has golden reviews.
In its fourth weekend, critically acclaimed “One Battle After Another” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor hit a global total of $162.5 million
Crime comedy “Roofman” starring Channing Tatum and Kirstin Dunst rounded out the top five in its second weekend in theaters.
Horror movies have had a strong holding in cinema this year. As the Halloween season takes office, it’ll be interesting to see how horror continues to take over. “Black Phone 2” has no direct competition this year which puts in a good spot in the Halloween box office. The film has hit $42 million globally.
