The 78th annual Cannes Film Festival is in full swing. From the stunning red carpet looks, to new film world premieres. As long as the film industry remains thriving, the festival will continue for a long time to come. From the glamor to the screen, let’s take a look through the Cannes Film Festival 2025 highlights so far.
Glamor In Full Force

As can be seen, a major focal point of the Cannes Film Festival is the red carpet looks. Major players from across the film industry dressing up. A particular interest this year is the updates to the festival’s charter, which strictly prohibits nudity, as well as any longer outfits that “hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater.” Given these points, the celebrities have conformed perfectly to the new guidelines.
For instance, Angelina Jolie took the ocassion to showcase an elegant Brunello Cucinelli nude-colored dress. In addition, Natalie Portman took the chance to wear a magnificent black gown inspired by an early 1950s Dior collection. In contrast, Rihanna chose to wear a bright blue halter dress. This is undoubtedly a call-out to her role as Smurfette in the upcoming film Smurfs, releasing on July 18.
As shown above, no fashion challenge is impossible for members of the film industry. They often choose breathtaking and stunning looks, which come up in conversations long after the festival’s conclusion. Given that the films are meant to be the star of the show, it is noteworthy that the glamor from the red carpet often steals the spotlight.

Above all, the Cannes Film Festival is about celebrating a wide variety of films made all over the world. Though not in contention for awards, the highlight of the entire festival was the premiere of Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning. Starring Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the film follows Ethan Hunt on a globe-spanning adventure, to take down an evil artifical intelligence destined to destablize the world.
Of course, this isn’t the only film to come out of the festival. There are three distinct categories of films at the Cannes Film Festival, In Competition, Un Certain Regard, and Out of Competition.
In Competition category films are eligible for the highest prize of the festival, known as Palme d’Or, or Golden Palm. Un Certain Regard, or A Certain Glance, category films are a showcase of up-and-coming and first-time directors on a grand stage. Out of Competition films are given Gala screenings, as other films are afforded, but otherwise aren’t considered for awards.
Aside from the previously mentioned Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning, other noteworthy premieres include Eleanor the Great, the directorial debut of famed factor Scarlett Johansson, who at the present time is most known for her role as Natasha Romanoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In addition, Kristen Stewart, perhaps most well-known for her role as Bella Swan in the Twilight franchise, also is making her directorial debut at this year’s festival, with her film The Chronology of Water.
