After five years since their last release, Deftones has announced a new album. This week, they announced their project ‘Private Music’ which will be released on August 2022 via Reprise and Warner Records. On their Instagram page, the band posted a picture of the album cover featuring a vibrant green background and a blinding white snake curved across the foreground. Along with this surprise, the band released the lead single from the album ‘My Mind Is a Mountain’.
‘Private Music’ is a short LP, having a 11-song tracklist featuring tunes like ‘Milk of the Madonna’, ‘Locked Club’, ‘Cut Hands’ and ‘cXz’. This will be the band’s tenth studio album. Their last album was released in 2020, their project ‘Ohms’ which was celebrated for its fresh material and sharp focus. The album also earned them two Grammy nominations for ‘Best Metal Performance’ and ‘Best Rock Performance’.
2025 has been an eventful year for the band. They embarked on their first North American tour since 2022. The tour began in February in Portland, Oregon and featured stops in Phoenix, Las Vegas, and New York City. A second leg of the tour will be stretching to Canada. The first concert will be in Rogers Arena in Vancouver on the same date that the new album drops.
Deftones has made waves in the industry for nearly forty years, pushing the envelope of alternative metal with experimentation as their guide. After spending the majority of the 90s making their name in the music scene, their breakthrough came from the release of ‘White Pony’ in 2000.
