August 6, 2025 marked 10 years since the hit musical Hamilton made its debut on Broadway. Since debuting, it has become a true cultural phenomenon. It was released on Disney Plus on July 3, 2020. This was after it was originally set to debut in theaters on October 15, 2021. Now, nearly four years later, Hamilton will get a chance to shine in theaters on September 5, 2025. All in all, fans of the musical all around the world will flock to the theaters, to get a chance to experience the musical phenomenon in a whole new way.
How Hamilton Became A Massive Success

Hamilton originated as a mixtape project, that creator Lin-Manuel Miranda first debuted at the 2009 White House Evening of Poetry, Music, and the Spoken Word, hosted by then-US President Barack Obama. From there, the project evolved into a Broadway musical, that ended up going beyond even Miranda’s wildest dreams.
In 2016, a recording of the original Hamilton Broadway cast performing in the show comes into existence. Years later, after The Walt Disney Company purchased the distribution rights, the filmed version was going to get its shot in thetaters on October 15, 2021. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic ravaged the globe throughout 2020. However, this is when the decision was made to release Hamilton early on July 3, 2020, onto Disney Plus, where everyone could view it from the comfort of their own homes. That decision ended up working out greatly. By the end of 2020, Hamilton was the sixth most-streamed film of the year, across all streaming services, with 6.1 billion minutes watched.
Hamilton Finally Heading To Theaters

Now, during the 10th anniversary year of the original Broadway musical, Hamilton will get its shot in theaters. It will release in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico on September 5. The United Kingdom and Ireland will follow on September 26, and then Australia and New Zealand on November 13. This has been a long time coming for many.
At long last, fans of the hit Broadway musical will get to see the recording of the show, as it was originally intended. In addition to the recording that is out on Disney Plus, the theatrical release, per The Walt Disney Company press release, will include ““Reuniting the Revolution,” an exclusive special prologue to the film featuring all-new interviews with the original cast and creators as they reflect on the impact the show has had on their lives.”
10 Years Later

Lin-Manuel Miranda once said that “immigrants are the lifeblood of America.” Capturing the story of the first treasury secretary, Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant turned American Founding Father, has ended up being one of his greatest storytelling achievements in the eyes of many. All in all, Hamilton will live on in greatness, just as it will live on in the hearts and minds of fans for a long time to come.
