James Gunn has revealed the Superman follow-up. The film will carry the title Man of Tomorrow. It will release July 9, 2027. With the box office success of Superman, a follow-up project isn’t entirely surprising. All in all, fans will be thrilled to have a follow-up on the big screen. Releasing two years after the original debuted in theaters around the world, the follow-up will for sure be a ride.
Man of Tomorrow In Theaters July 9, 2027
Across his various social media accounts, James Gunn has announced the next chapter in the Superman Saga for his DCU. Man of Tomorrow, a follow-up but not a direct sequel to Superman, will release July 9, 2027. Gunn has stated that he has completed the script, and is now in the lengthy rewriting phase. Gunn’s announcement includes art from Jim Lee. It seems to suggest that Superman (David Corenswet) and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) will return in Man of Tomorrow. In addition, Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) reposted Gunn’s announcement onto her Instagram story, implying that she too will appear in the film. If she is in the film, it is likely that Guy Gardner (Nathon Fillion) and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi) will appear as well.
Superman is doing very well at the box office right now, as it currently is the highest-grossing solo Superman film domestically and the second-highest grossing solo Superman film worlwide of all-time. In terms of the worldwide category, it is only behind 2013’s Man of Steel. That said, it is not a surprise then that James Gunn is quick to get the follow-up film into production. With Supergirl and Clayface set to be the 2026 DCU film releases, he is looking to fill the 2027 slate with an instant heavy-hitter. Fans will flock to the theaters for the release, to see what comes next in the Superman saga, as well as the larger DCU.
The Superman Saga Will Continue

Man of Tomorrow is the next film in the DCU’s Superman Saga. With James Gunn returning to write and direct the film, fans are in for something truly special. With the success of Superman, the DCU appears to be flying towards the stars, in the hopes of permantely reviving DC’s presence on the big screen.
