The Labubu craze has reached the cinematic world. According to an exclusive by The Hollywood Reporter, a Labubu film is in the works at Sony Pictures. No other details have been released asides from that. Sony has picked up the screen rights to the Chinese doll brand and it’ll be interesting to see how further this film goes due to the dolls popularity.
Labubu dolls were designed by Kasing Lung and made by How2 Work as part of a line of monstering figurines. They began selling in 2019 through Pop Mart. Once Pop Mart began selling Labubu dolls in “blind boxes” they surged in demand. These Labubus have been notoriously high which has added to their allure. K-pop group Blackpink member Lisa used them as accessories last year.
