Though some fans will take the news negatively, Disney celebrates 626 Day by announcing a second live-action Lilo and Stitch film has gone into development. The first one, in theaters now, is on track to become 2025’s “first billion-dollar blockbuster.” Though many have been very critical of the live-action Lilo and Stitch, the reality is it has made a lot of money for Disney. As a result, they see the chance to make plenty more by making a second one. Live-action remakes have come and gone, but they will continue to make them since they’re making money. All in all, this is great news for Disney, but not necessarily for fans. Many will want Disney to move on, but since they make money, they will continue to be made for a long time to come.
Lilo and Stitch Will Be Back On The Big Screen
Walt Disney Studios announces a second live-action Lilo and Stitch film is now in development. This is an announcement a part of 626 Day. In the original animated film, Stitch is known as Experiment 626. Therefore, this is the reason why 626 Day has become popular.
In terms of live-action Lilo and Stitch 2, this is no surprise. The first one is on track to be the first $1 billion film of 2025. Lilo and Stitch, in general, generated “$2.6 billion in consumer products” revenue in 2024. As a result, fans will see that Lilo and Stitch is one of the most popular franchises Disney has. They will do what is necessary to keep their doors open.
In addition, Disney is not going to adhere to fan perceptions. Some will critique them since they feel the live-action films aren’t necessary. However, the reality is, as long as films continue to make them money, they will make whatever they feel to be necessary. Therefore, if Lilo and Stitch 2 will make them money, then they will make the film, no matter what.

In conclusion, the reality is the live-action Lilo and Stich film is making Disney quite a bit of money. As a result, making a second one was an easy decision. However, it is way too early to determine if the second one will make as much or more money than the first. All in all, it will be fascinating to see if they adapt some of the spinoffs and sequels in the second one, or if they will craft an entirely original story. Fans will just have to wait and see what ultimately happens.
