The world is watching.
The first reviews and reactions are in for Superman. As it stands, a majority of fans and critics alike have positive opinions on the film itself. Many say the film isn’t perfect, but that it’s an excellent start for the new DCU under James Gunn and Peter Safran. All in all, the film looks like a success for DC Studios and Warner Brothers. As for what extent that goes to, that remains to be seen.
Look Up At Success

From The Outlaw Nation calling the film “a comic book lover’s dream”, to Grance Randolph saying it is “very loyal to the comics.” Superman appears to work for most critics, outlets, and fans across the board. In addition, the first film of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU is, at the time of writing, holding an 86% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. The biggest critical reviews say that the film plays it too safe, and fails to reinvent the character enough. However, there are others saying that the new DCU is flying onto the scene in “spectacular fashion.”
All in all, Superman, according to all who’ve seen it, is a action-packed debut for the new DCU. Many DC loyalists will look at the news with excitement. However, the real test is on the horizon. The box office numbers will tell the true story if the DCU will continue as is. Time will tell if the film will make $1 billion, $500 million, or another number entirely. Regardless, fans and critics are having fun with the film, which is enough for them. Whether or not that is enough for Warner Brothers at the end of the day, remains to be seen. Fans will just have to wait and see where the wind blows from here.
