An update on the long-awaited Michael Jackson biopic by Universal Pictures has finally been released. This week an official trailer for ‘Michael’ was revealed to the world, and the response has been nothing short of extraordinary.
Produced by Graham King of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘Michael’ has been in the works for several years now. Development began in 2019 with Logan set to write the screenplay. In 2022, Lionsgate announced they would be distributing the film with Universal Pictures taking over internationally. Filming was scheduled to begin in the middle of 2023 but was put on hold because of the SAG-AFTRA strikes. Filming continued from then onto June of this year.
‘Michael’ stars Michael Jackson’s own nephew Jaafar Jackson as the late pop star. The film features an incredible ensemble cast of Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kendrick Sampson, Larenz Tate, and Derrick Luke. Portraying the Jackson 5 are Juliano Krue Valdi, Jamal R. Henderson, Jayden Harville, Tre Horton, Jaylen Lyndon Hunter, Judah Edwards, Rhyan Hill, and Joseph David Jones.
‘Michael’ follows the King of Pop from his time as a young performer in the Jackson 5 until his sudden death in 2009.
According to Deadline, the official trailer for ‘Michael’ received more than 30 million views within its first six hours across all social media platforms.
‘Michael’ is releasing in IMAX theaters on April 24,2026.
