Directing duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are coming on to write and produce for a new ‘Star Trek’ film for Paramount Studios. They will be producing under their GoldDay banner. The filmmaking duo has worked on ‘Dungeons & Dragons’, and ‘Spider-Man’ together.
Although details about the storyline haven’t been revealed, Goldstein and Daley will do a completely different take on the ‘Star Trek’ plot and won’t be connected to previous franchise releases. Skydance founder David Ellison recently mentioned that the next film in the series wouldn’t be a follow up to the Chris Pine-led iteration.
Goldstein and Daley are well known for being fresh writing to existing franchises and characters. They have also been well connected to Paramount and Skydance in recent years. ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ received a 91% rating from critics and 92% from audiences, being one of Paramount’s best scored films.
The last ‘Star Trek’ film to be released was ‘Star Trek Beyond’ in 2016. Over the years multiple projects have been announced or released however nothing concrete has come of it. Justin Lin directed the movie starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana. ‘Star Trek Beyond’ grossed over $343 million worldwide.
