Yesterday, we had the pleasure of attending REBELS & RULEBREAKERS at the Netflix Tudum Theater in Los Angeles – a gathering of the industry’s most dynamic storytellers and performers, celebrating bold new narratives and the artists shaping today’s television landscape.
Held on May 17, 2025, the event brought together directors, writers, and actors behind some of Netflix’s most anticipated and talked-about series, including The Diplomat, Nobody Wants This, FOREVER, The Four Seasons, Zero Day, Simone Biles: Rising, The Residence, and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. The afternoon was filled with thoughtful panels, behind-the-scenes insights, and meaningful conversations about creativity, collaboration, and risk-taking in modern storytelling.
Among the standout moments were heartfelt discussions from actresses Justine Lupe (Nobody Wants This) and Susan Kelechi Watson (The Residence), who opened up about the pivotal “gateway moments” that transform their characters and redefine the arcs of their respective shows. Their conversation reflected on how those defining scenes challenge both character and performer, offering opportunities for emotional depth, resilience, and growth.
Karen Pittman, star of FOREVER, shared her journey of finding the show’s unique emotional tone, crediting the process of deep listening – to fellow actors, scripts, and directors – as key to unlocking the heart of the series. Her thoughtful reflection on being an actor as both observer and vessel offered a moving perspective on the craft of performance.
Another highlight came from Uzo Aduba (The Residence), who spoke about a subtle yet transformative moment she experienced while working on the show. By unpacking the rhythm and density of her character’s dialogue, Aduba was able to discover new layers of intelligence and pacing within her role, revealing how small, often overlooked details can offer powerful creative breakthroughs.
The event wasn’t just about conversation, it was a full celebration, closing with a brunch reception where attendees mingled, connected, and celebrated the spirit of rebellion and rule-breaking that drives truly memorable storytelling.
