As a matter of fact, Netflix is making some history. They have chosen to put the upcoming “Stranger Things” series finale in several hundred theaters across the United States and Canada. With that, the stage is set for one of the most anticipated streaming series finales, to release on Netflix and in theaters at the same exact time.
“Stranger Things” Series Finale Will Go Theatrical

The “Stranger Things” series finale “will premiere on Netflix and in more than 350 movie theaters on Dec. 31, starting at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET, playing through Jan. 1, 2026.” This is the first time ever that Netflix has ever put an episode of one of their series on the streaming platform and in theaters at the same time. That said, this appears to have been the wish of the “Stranger Things” series creators. When interviewed about the topic, Matt Duffer had this to say:
People don’t get to experience how much time and effort is spent on sound and picture, and they’re seeing it at reduced quality. More than that, it’s about experiencing it at the same time with fans.
In short, Netflix deciding to put “Stranger Things,” one of its most popular series of all-time, in a theatrical release, indicates their confidence in the overall quality of the material. With the final season reportedly having one of the most expensive budgets a season of a series has ever had, it makes sense why Netflix is making this move. All in all, “Stranger Things” getting a theatrical release for their series finale is an ultimate win-win for everyone involved.
“Stranger Things” Will Get A Theatrical End

“Stranger Things” Season Five stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, and Charlie Heaton, among others. The Duffer Brothers, Matt and Ross, are the writers and show runners. The season will release in three parts. Those three parts will release on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve respectfully.
