The time has come and production for the sequel to ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ has officially begun. ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ was announced earlier this year with a release date set for May 1, 2026. Joining them will be Kenneth Branagh starring as the husband of Meryl Streep’s iconic character, Miranda Priestly.
‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is based off the 2003 chick lit novel by Lauren Weisberger which stayed on the New York Times Bestseller list for six months. The film follows Andy (Hathaway), a Northwestern college graduate who lands a gig working as a junior assistant to Miranda Priestly (Streep) at Runway. Along with fellow assistant Emily (Blunt), Andy does her best to make their egomaniacal boss happy hoping that it secures them careers in the Big Apple. ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is a seminal movie of the 2000s, grossing $326 million in the box office.
‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Returns
According to several outlets, the sequel’s premise will still have Priestly in her head role at Runway. Priestly struggles in the modern day publishing world, trying her best to keep Runway from going bottom up. In a semblance of humility for Priestly, she now has to gain financial hep from none other than her former employee Emily. Emily works as an executive for a brand however its unknown where Andy’s whereabouts are. Miranda Priestly is rumored to have been based off of Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue. Weisberger was a former assistant to Wintour who stepped down from Vogue just last week.
Several key players from the first film are slated to join the sequel. Directors, David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna, will make a return.
