In a special Nintendo Direct presentation, Illumination and Nintendo released the first “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” trailer. With most of the first film’s cast returning, and even some new cast members joining in to voice some iconic characters, the future is truly looking cosmic for Mario and friends.
“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” First Trailer Now Out, Voices of Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Revealed

In a special Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo has officially released the first trailer for “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.” Within it, elements from various Mario games, including “Super Mario Bros. Wonder,” “Super Mario Odyssey,” “Super Mario Sunshine,” and of course “Super Mario Galaxy.” The first portion of the trailer is dedicated to Bowser (Jack Black) trying to make up for his villainous ways, by painting a picture of him and Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy). When he presents it to Luigi (Charlie Day) and Mario (Chris Pratt), Luigi is supportive, but Mario calls it “trash.” From there, a montage begins, showcasing that a galaxy-defining adventure is in the works when the film debuts this April.
At the end of it all, it was revealed that Brie Larson will take on the role of Rosalina, with Benny Safdie taking on the role of Bowser Jr. Fans will know Larson from her tenure as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in the MCU, while Safdie most recently has been in films such as “Oppenheimer” and the upcoming Christopher Nolan film “The Odyssey.” Larson and Safdie join Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson on the cast. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic will direct the film, hailing from a script written by Matthew Fogel. The film releases in theaters April 3, 2026.

To conclude, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is gearing up to be a truly cosmic adventure, taking elements from Mario games from across the ages. All in all, with the main cast returning, and new cast members entering the Mushroom Kingdom and beyond, the future of Mario on the big screen is looking brighter than ever.
