According to exclusive news from Variety, a series adaptation of ‘V for Vendetta’ is currently in development at HBO. Pete Jackson is set to write the screenplay with James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios to executive produce. Ben Stephenson of Poison Pen and Leanne Klein of Wall to Wall Media, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Television Studios UK.
‘V for Vendetta’ was once a comic series written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd . It made its debut in the British anthology ‘Warrior’ in 1982 before DC took over publishing in 1988.
Variety provides a synopsis of the series. “The story is set in Britain in a dystopian, not-too-distant future in which the country is controlled by the fascistic Norsefire party. An anarchist named V, known for his distinctive Guy Fawkes mask, seeks to topple the government with the help of Evey Hammond, a young woman V rescued from the country’s secret police.’
‘V for Vendetta’ was adapted into film twenty years ago starring Hugo Weaving as V and Natalia Portman as Evey. The film grossed over $130 million worldwide and received positive reviews. Warner Bros. is set to bring the film to theaters next year in honor of its 20th anniversary.
