You will be changed.
As part of the one-night only Wicked re-release in theaters, Universal Pictures has released the official trailer for Wicked For Good. The second part of the Wicked story, it is proving to be an emotionally impactful conclusion to a story that means so much to so many.
The Emotional Stakes
In regards to the characters in general, Director Jon Chu said that “kids gonna grow up.”
With the official trailer release for Wicked For Good, it is apparent that the overall tone of the story has matured. The hunt for Elphaba Thropp (Cynthia Erivo), now known as the Wicked Witch of the West, is on. In addition, Glinda Upland (Ariana Grande) will be getting married. That said, she is holding out hope for the “one friend that mattered.”
Elphaba being on the run, and Glinda getting her life together already sets the stage for an emotional conclusion. This doesn’t even take into consideration the path this story is going on. For example, as indicated in the trailer, Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Cowardly Lion will be appearing in Wicked For Good. This indicates the story will intertwine with the events of the original Wizard of Oz. In due time, it will be revealed just how involved in the story they will be. All that said, this movie is proving that the emotional stakes will be higher than they ever have been before. It is exciting to see just how high and far the story will go from this point forward.
Music Is Wickedly Good

Of course, the official trailer for Wicked For Good would not be complete without a preview of the music. After all, it’s what fans of the beloved Broadway musical turned two-part film are really excited to hear.
About midway through the trailer, we can hear what appears to be a small snippet of one of two new original songs. The song snippet heard is centered around Elphaba. Though he would not say specifically what the two songs were about, Director Jon Chu promises fans that they are both “necessary to help tell the story.”
Then, there’s the songs that Wicked fans will know and love. The official trailer debut snippets of “For Good” and “No Good Deed,” two of the more popular songs from the second act of the Wicked musical. Both snippets from these two songs sounded as great as the music for Wicked has ever sounded. It appears like the music also has matured to a point as well. Even so, it is still capturing the power of Erivo and Grande’s singing abilities perfectly. If the trailer is anything to go off of, we are in for a great treat come November 21.
They Can Still Do It… Together?

At the heart of it all, the friendship shared between Elphaba and Glinda is in full focus.
Though they are now on differing paths, there is still a connection. This connection will not brake easily. That said, the foundation of that connection will get its biggest test in Wicked For Good. Knowing how the original Broadway show and Wizard of Oz ends, it will be interesting to see how that all goes. The chemistry between Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande is, and will continue to be, unmatched. With that, whatever way the friendship and story ultimately goes will put fans on a true emotional roller coaster.
